One fine afternoon Garfield stood on the table. Then John walked in and said ‘’Garfield you really need to lose some weight.’’ Garfield said, “Correction I should lose weight. I NEED COOKIES!’ John looked at Garfield and replied “You really want homemade cookies?” “Yes I really want some homemade cookies,” Insisted Garfield. John yawned and said, “ Ok fine Garfield. Yaw.” In the end Garfield turned out to be very fat.
“Odie just face it you will never get me!” said Garfield. “Would you like a bet?” asked Odie. “Ok.” replied Garfield.”AHHHHHHHH HELP!” yelled Garfield. “Go Odie go!” Yelled Nermal. “NO don’t go!” called Garfield.
Students have been learning about how to use quotation marks in their writing. This is some examples of their first paragraphs. They used comics to help them understand what words should be in quotations.

Weekly Letter

January 25, 2008

Dear Parents,

We have had a fine week. Our class has finished our colonial unit. This means we have completed our posters and brochures. We made posters that show how they survived which had a food, clothing, and shelter area. We also created brochures that told about what it was like in our colony. You can look at the brochures on our blog. The class as also been studying how to combine sentences and how to use quotation marks. We made cartoons to help us learn where quotation marks go. Next week we will use our cartoons to write a story that has quotation marks in it. Finally we have continued learning about finding main idea. We are reading poems and finding the main idea in them. Now you have learned about our week and it should be obvious why it was so wonderful.

Sincerely

Family Fun

Do you want to know what my best day ever with my family was? Well your about to find out about my trip to Silverwood. First Silverwood was a family trip. We traveled to Silverwood which is in Idaho. That is a long long, ways away. Idaho is 300 miles away but to get to Silverwood you will have to go another 13 miles. Next we had to drive. It was not fun! When we finely got to silverwood we went to a Garfield shop for presents and we went on a few rides. We went on the plunger. This ride takes you 250ft in the air and then drops you like a cat falling from the sky. Obviously now you know how fun my family’s trips are.

Family Night

Family night is so exciting. I love the movie. When I was watching the movie I got to have buttery popcorn and chocolate vanilla ice-cream. The movie was called Fantastic Four. My favorite part was when the girl was fighting the boy and she won the battle. Before the movie we played a game called life. It was exciting! My sister Haley usually wins the game life. I told her it was not fair that she always wins. After the game of life we laughed and laughed then we watched the movie Fantastic Four. Now you can see that family night is so fun.

Best Day Ever

Do you want to know the best day I ever spent with my family?
It was in San Diego that I had my best day ever with my family.
We went to Sea World when we were in San Diego. I got to see an Orca show called
Believe. The Orca was called Shamoo. Shamoo did fast flips. One kid [not me] got to feed Shamoo three fish. Then the show was over. I was waking out of the show and smelled something fishy. It was the bright pink flamingos!!! My family and I went to
the San Diego zoo and we got to see all different types of animals. My family and I went to the kid’s part of the zoo. My dad went to the bug house and called use to come over to the bug house. It was a very boring bug house until we saw a huge bird eating spider and a giant horned beetle.! Our family also went to go see the swimming polar bears. They were not swimming instead they were playing with big logs up on the shore. Obviously you now know how much fun my family and I had in San Diego.

Drew's Favorite Time

What is your favorite time that you have ever spent with your family? My favorite time that I have ever spent with my family was when my grandma and I went on a big toy train. But my mom stayed at the station because there was not enough room. Riding on the train was so awesome! Before the train moved I was so scared but after a few minuets of chugging along I started to laugh and look out of the window. It was so exiting because the wind was blowing in my face and the wind felt like I was swimming. When the train started to go I hit my head on the back of the seat. I didn’t cry because the seat was soft. Finally the train stopped and I got very upset. I started to cry and my face turned red. I was so mad! When the train stopped my mom came and took me out of it. She said, “If you can calm down your grandma will buy you a piece of candy.” I heard the word candy I immediately stopped crying and she said, “What kind of candy do you want?” I responded and said, “Skittles please.” Grandma said, “Ok.” In conclusion now you know what my favorite time that I have ever spent with my grandma was. I hope to hear about your family some time.

Kevin's Best Day

The best day I ever spent with my family was when I went to Disneyland. How we got there was on a plane. There were lots of people on the plane sitting in soft chairs. I almost got sick in the air because the plane took off fast! Then we got off the plane and we had to pay money to go to Disneyland. We went on a couple of rides and one was Alice in Wonderland. I got to ride on the caterpillar that smoked a pipe. Next I went on a teacup ride and it spun really fast! Now you should know that I had a pleasant time with my family.

Best Day Ever With My Family

What is the best moment you have had with your family? Las Vegas was the best time I have had with my family. The trip to Vegas was one of the best parts of my trip. I liked the trip because I got lots of rest. The chair on the plane was very comfortable and the flight attendant gave me a pillow to rest my head on. I also liked it because I could listen to music like Green day. Next I liked the hotel. .The hotel was a giant square building with bright blue walls. My dad bought us a sweet. The bad thing is that I had to share a bed in the room. I kept him awake by kicking him. Vegas was so exciting, even though I had to share a room with my brother.

Rochelle's Best Day With Her Family

Do you want to know the best day ever with my family. One of the best days ever with my family was at the crystal clear Sun Lakes. Sun Lakes has a store to buy some goggles for the pool. I wore the goggles in the pool so I would not run into people. Sun lakes is by Coulee city about two hours from Waterville. Next, there are some lakes not to far away from Sun Lakes. Deep lake is one of the lakes. At Deep lake you can swim as long as you want because it is deep and has a dock to jump off. You can do a lot of stuff off of the dock like cannon bombs and front flips .When I hit the water I get cold. Obviously now you know what the best day ever was with my family.

The Best Day I Ever Spent With My Family
By Kyra

The best day I ever spent with my family is at Silver Wood. First my aunt and I went on the Timber Terror together. The Timber Terror was nothing like the Tremors. The Timber Terror made my aunt and I screamed our heads off! The reason why Timber Terror is nothing compared to the Tremors is because the Timber Terror went super duper fast like a rocket. Secondly the Panic Plunge was a great ride even though I didn’t go on the ride. Amber, mom, dad, and Shantelle all went on the Panic Plunge. When the ride went up moms flip flops came down. She also screamed her head off and I laughed at her until my cheek bones were sore. My dad even got a little scared for the first time since he was a little boy, at least that is what he said. My mom told me that she thought they were at top but no, they were only half way up. Mommy also thought when they reached the top it would pause but she was wrong, it came right down. Clearly you can see that I had a fun time with my family at Silver Wood.

Hello Parents,

How have you been this week? This week we have been having so much fun! We went to music this week and got to choose our instruments. Each of us got different instruments like flutes, mallets, and trumpets. In music we also got to record out colonial song which we will put on our blog. This week we also finished our colonial survival poster. The poster shows how the colonists food, clothing, and shelter. We learned that everything somehow ties back to the sun which is provides energy. Finally our class is telling about our favorite day with our family. While we are writing we are practicing indenting, using correct conventions, and putting sentences together to make them more interesting. We have also learned how to stop run on sentences. As you can see we have had a very exciting week.

Dear Parents,

You can’t imagine what type of week we have had at school! Are you ready to hear about it! One of the things we have worked on is our colonial brochure. All of us have gotten finished with our brochure and they have been published on our blog. Now for our colonial project we are making posters. The posters tell about the food, shelter, and clothing the colonist had. We have learned the habitat of the colonists was very important and the sun gave the energy for the colonists to live. We have also been learning about writing compound sentences. This means putting sentences together using conjunction words like but, and, and. The writing trait we have been working on is sentence fluency. In conclusion you know what kind of crazy week we have had.

Sincerely,

Your Snow Child

Dear Parents,

Guess what we did this week! It was a busy three days of school. We are beginning to take notes to discover what the colonists needed to survive. Each of groups have been looking through books to find notes about what the colonists used for clothing, food, and shelter. Next we finally got to get into our own literature groups. This is where we get into groups and read a book we are interested in. While we read we laugh discuss and make lots of connections. It’s fantastic! Finally we have been learning about how to fill out our observation forms and bring insects to school. Our data will be given the University of Washington so they can track what kind of bugs we have around Waterville. It is obvious why we are so tired and need to sleep in this weekend.

Sincerely
